Courses for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities (SEND)

We offer a specialist curriculum that is flexible and individualised, providing pathways of learning from school and progression to main College programmes, work training, employment, supported living and the local community

We offer courses for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Inclusion and the opportunity to progress in the college, community and the world of work are at the core of our beliefs and values.

These courses meet the needs of young people who present with a range of special educational needs working at different cognitive levels ranging for profound to moderate. 

Our personalised study programs are planned and delivered in order to enable students develop their targets and aspirations as outlined in their Educational Health and Care plans.

These pathways can overlap depending on students’ needs and goals. All pathways enable students to:

We offer full time study programmes that run between September and June from 9:30am – 3:00pm which allows time for transport drop offs. Students attend college 4 days a week.

We work in partnership with a range of local authorities and places in the Centre are allocated through a consultation process.

Skills and Independence Pathway
Courses on this pathway are aimed at high needs students aged 16-24. The courses are designed for school leavers transitioning into college with severe to moderate learning difficulties and disabilities. The aim is to further develop personal, choice making and social skills as well as independence and communication. The student on the courses within this pathway will be individually assessed. Some students may be entered for relevant qualifications
College Pathway
Courses on this pathway are aimed at students transitioning from schools, who are working at Entry level. The aim is to develop students’ literacy and numeracy along with their personal and social development. The student on the courses within this pathway will be individually assessed and entered for Functional Skills English and Maths qualifications. They will also work towards Entry 2 or Entry 3 OCN qualifications.
Work and Employability Pathway
Courses on this pathway are aimed at students transitioning from school, who have had some work experience or a desire to work. The aim is to develop and build students’ communication, social skills, confidence and independence. The course has a strong emphasis on citizenship and personal social development. The student on the courses within this pathway will be individually assessed and entered for Functional Skills English and Maths qualifications. They will also work towards Entry 2 or Entry 3 OCN qualifications.

The Pathway Centre

The Southgate Campus is home to the state-of-the-art, life-changing  centre dedicated to students with special educational needs and complex learning difficulties. This pioneering venture for North London is the first purpose-built college centre in the area providing specialist education facilities which are totally dedicated to the specific needs of students with learning disabilities.
