Enterprise and Employment Services

We provide professional facilities and training for business, as well as an apprenticeships service.

Employer Information

Apprenticeships enable individuals to be trained in a specific job role to the standards of their industry. The apprentice gains new skills, knowledge and behaviours through a wide mix of learning in the workplace, off-the-job training as well as the opportunity to practise these new skills in the working environment. Apprenticeships are available to new recruits and existing members of staff.

By exploring apprenticeship opportunities within your organisation, you can take advantage of new and innovative knowledge and expertise to train staff. This allows you to attract new talent to your organisation and mould them to your way of doing business. With the expanding delivery options, including higher degree apprenticeships, you can attract new and develop existing staff to fill skills gaps within your organisation.

All employers will be expected to use and manage the apprenticeship service for any new apprenticeships. Employers who are enrolling apprentices will need to create an Apprenticeship Service Account so you can access the funds and advertise vacancies.

What would be your key commitments on the apprenticeship?

It is vital that you employ your apprentice in a real job, ensuring they have the opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills and experience they need to complete their apprenticeship.

To support the apprentice, providing a mentor, in their job role.

The apprentice must have a contract of employment which provides minimum of 30 hours a week and covers the full duration of the apprenticeship.

The apprenticeship training must last at least 12 months. Depending on the apprenticeship this can vary but potentially this could be up to 4 years.

Apprentices must spend at least 6 hours per week, of their contracted hours, on training.

Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage for apprentices in the first year, and the minimum wage for their age in their second year. You will also have to pay the apprentice a wage on the hours spent on off the job training.

Agree to meet with assessors and tutors on a regular basis to discuss the apprentices progress to date.
