Student Services

We offer a free, professional, friendly and confidential service open to all students across the college. Our services are accredited by Matrix, an external standard that recognises quality in advice and support services.

Careers Advisers:

  • UCAS applications and personal statements
  • Finding jobs, apprenticeships, voluntary work
  • CVs, application forms, interview skills (including mock interviews)

Learning Coaches:

Safeguarding Officers:

  • Help you to stay safe and free from harm
  • Ensure fair and inclusive treatment
  • Recognise, respect and celebrate differences
  • Inform you of places to get help
  • Are a key point of contact for students, staff, outside agencies, looked after children, care leavers, those with disabilities, young parents and mental health

Counsellors:

  • Trained personnel to talk to about issues that are important to you
  • Providing support to overcome barriers to your learning
  • Overcoming stress and change

Personal Development Advisers can help you with:

  • Support through the delivery of a range of workshops around life skills
  • Help with assignments and coursework
  • Referrals to specialist support
  • 1:1 help with personal problems, family/friendship issues
  • Housing advice

To book an appointment with any member of the team (Personal Development Advisers, Careers, Learning Coaches, Mental Health & Well-Being Adviser) just pop in to your campus Learning Resource Centre and a Student Engagement Assistant will book one for you.

There is an 'I'm Worried' button on the iLearn page to contact safeguarding anonymously, or the number can be found on the back of the student ID badge.

Digital Learning Coach:

Provides support to students of all levels to improve their digital skills, developing use of tools such as web-based apps, devices and software.

Assistive Technology Co-ordinator:

Provides support to students of all levels and cross college staff to improve their digital skills, developing use of tools such as web-based apps, devices and software and to implement appropriate exam access arrangements and aid independence in learning.

Assistive Technology opens the DOOR to opportunities which goes beyond what we can imagine. For most of us technology makes things easier, but for a learner with a disability, it makes things possible. The college offers an Assistive Technology service where highly trained specialist staff aims to enhance and assist with development and progression within a Further and Higher Education setting.

Study Support Assistant:

Identify support needs and embed strategies and adjustments into Teaching, Learning and Assessment practices. Provides a range of in class interventions, focusing primarily on the development of ICT, English and maths skills development.

Exam Access Arrangements Adviser:

Conducts 1-2-1 assessments with students to support exam access arrangements and reviews formal documentation received from external professionals and education establishments to award exam access arrangements through the examining body in line with the Joint Council Qualifications regulations.

EHCP Adviser:

Provides support to aid student success through ongoing monitoring and tracking of progress and liaison with the wider college staff, parents/carers and external agencies to enhance the quality of the student experience, as well as supporting the planning and transition arrangements into further education, training, and employment.

Counsellor:

Provides confidential 1-2-1 support on strategies to build resilience, mental health and wellbeing, confidence and motivation to engage in learning.

Mental Health Adviser:

Provides 1-2-1 and group support to students through implementing strategies and sign posting to appropriate support to help reduce barriers to students social, emotional, mental health to improve well-being and motivation to engage in learning, in liaison with wider college staff and external professionals.

Communication workers:

Interpreters of British Sign Language to support for students with hearing impairments either on a 1-2-1 or in groups in and out of class.

Enrichment

The Enrichment team provides a programme of events and activities for you to get involved with during your time at the College.

We listen to our students and like to know how you would like to get involved with Enrichment. Please email Christie Tsioupra (Enrichment and Wellbeing Lead) if you have an idea or would like to get involved.

Getting involved with Enrichment can help you to:

  • Have an increased motivation to learn
  • Improve your self-confidence
  • Feel a sense of belonging and community
  • Reduce anxiety about academic readiness
