There are many ways to get involved in College life from playing sport, to social events, to even being able to take part in having a voice in shaping the College strategy as a student governor. Any ideas for activities or events from students are welcome at any time and you can speak to a member of the Student Services Team or Sports Department with any suggestions.
Activities outside of your studies provide a great way to relax, meet new people and enhance your skills and personal development. When facilities aren’t being used for classes on campus, they are all ideal for a range of activities and exercise classes.
The Enrichment Team provides a programme of events and activities for you to get involved with during your time at the College. If you are a current student and want to learn about our current and upcoming enrichment activities please log onto ilearn and navigate to 'student services' and then 'enrichment activities'. If you are a prospective student please visit our Student Services social account to learn about our current activities that you can get involved in.
Examples of previous student led activities include; organising a games league i.e. table tennis or Connect 4, Film Club, Ladies Only Girls group meeting to talk about girls' stuff, Debating Club (talking about the topics on your mind), Celebrating Black History Month with foods from different cultures and inspiring role models, English Speaking Club and charitable events like Children in Need and Red Nose Day.
We listen to our students and like to know how you would like to get involved with Enrichment. Please email Christie Tsioupra (Student Voice, Personal Development and Enrichment Lead) at christie.tsioupra@barnetsouthgate.ac.uk if you have an idea or would like to get involved.
Sport and physical activity are a big part of College life for many of our students and they are not only a great way to make new friends but an opportunity to let off some steam. Barnet and Southgate College is one of the leading Colleges in the country for sports and athletic performance and at the forefront in London. In 2019 alone, we saw multiple AoC Sport National Championships medallists, league successes, numerous students capped and selected for England or Great Britain and others achieving professional contracts or succeeding in elite level competition outside of the College. If you want to take your sporting skills further you may want to consider trialling for one of the College's sporting academies. Any student can apply to join one of our highly successful sports academies.
The College was one of the first Colleges in the country to be accredited as a TASS (Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme) Dual Career centre. The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) provides the opportunity for young International, National or Regional level athletes in any sport to get the very best out of their academic and sporting ability, without having to make the hard decision between the two.
If you feel you meet this criteria or would like to learn more please get in contact with James Edgerley (James.Edgerley@barnetsouthgate.ac.uk) or go to: https://www.tass.gov.uk/accredited-sites/
