The college recognises its moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all learners. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where all learners are respected and valued.
Children, young people (up to the age of 18) and vulnerable adults have a fundamental right to be protected from harm. It is the responsibly of all members of staff, volunteers and governors to report cases of suspected abuse, disclosure of abuse or abuse of trust and be aware of the policy and procedure for doing this.
If you have concerns that a child or vulnerable adult is at risk of harm or is being abused you must report this.
If you have any concerns tell a member of the Safeguarding Team immediately. Telephone 020 3764 4077 or email safeguarding@barnetsouthgate.ac.uk with your safeguarding concerns. (Please note that this is not a 24-hour service.)

If you are a learner at Barnet and Southgate College there is a range of support that you are encouraged to access to help you protect yourself and ensure your welfare. This includes: Progression Coaches, Learning Coaches, Safeguarding and Equality officers, Careers advisors and Counsellors
The college is committed to maintaining a Safeguarding ethos and creating a culture of openness and honesty. We strive, at all times, to work appropriately with services, outside agencies, parents and carers to help protect and promote the welfare of our learners.
Parents and carers are encouraged to access our Safeguarding policy to better understand the college’s statutory responsibilities in regard to Safeguarding, Child Protection and the Protection of Vulnerable Adults.
When appropriate we aim to discuss concerns about learners with their parents and carers yet in some instances this may not be appropriate. Decisions around this will be taken by the team of Designated Safeguarding Officers (DSOs).
If you would like to learn more about how you can protect or support your children we recommend that you speak to one of the DSOs.
