This one year course at Barnet and Southgate College is designed for those who are intrigued and motivated by art and design to explore, develop and test their creativity within a structure that provides a sound base of skills and knowledge, while enhancing self-confidence and revealing their own path within the Art, Design or Creative Media world.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
4 GCSEs grade 8/9 - 3 (A*-D), preferably including English; a Functional Skills Level 1 in maths and/or English, or a Level 1 qualification in a related area and a reference from your previous school/college.
What will I study ?
It will enable you to experience a range of core skills including 2D & 3D studies and Art, Design & Creative Media History. Following an intense induction programme learners will chose a specialism which will be discussed and negotiated with personal tutor.
Learners will also develop their skills in career progression by working on their Functional Skills or GCSE's in Maths &/or English, as well as taking part in vital employability and work experience projects.
How will I be assessed ?
Assessment is formative and coursework is assessed throughout the year.

Will I need an interview ?
Yes - you will need to meet with a member of staff for an interview, to which you should bring a portfolio of your artwork and a written description of why you are applying for a creative course and what your future plans are. (Approximately 300 words – one side of A4).
Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?
Many materials will be provided but it is advisable to invest in a small art box of equipment and materials so that you can continue your work outside of the studios.
Further Information
Students may need to study Functional Skills or GCSE English and/or Maths as part of their programme.
