This course is designed for post-16 students who have an interest in Physical Education and Sports Coaching and wish to start a career in leisure as a children's sports activities leader. It is an ideal qualification for learners intending to progress to employment in leisure, either directly or via an Apprenticeship.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
To get on this course you are required to have 4 GCSEs at grades 3-9 preferably including English, Maths and P.E. Alternatively, you should have a BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure with Level 1 Functional Skills English and Maths. You will be able to choose one of the following academies on your application: Athletics, Basketball, Football, Tennis, Boxing, Flag Football, or Women’s Rugby. While it is ideal to have previous experience playing competitive sports, it is not necessary to secure a place on the course.
What will I study ?
All the content of the qualification is mandatory and directly relates to the skills, knowledge, and behaviour expected by employers in the sport and active leisure sector. You will study the following subjects: Working in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry; Roles and Responsibilities of a Community Activity Leader; Planning and Promoting Community Activities; and Working as a Community Activity Leader. Additionally, as part of your full-time study programme, you will have the chance to join one of our academies, participate in training and matches, and earn extra coaching qualifications. You can choose from the following academies: Athletics, Basketball, Football, Tennis, Boxing, Flag Football, Women’s Rugby, and male Volleyball.
How will I be assessed ?
Assessments will take place throughout the course, through internal assessments consisting of practical assessments; written assignments; presentations; workbooks.
What qualifications could I achieve ?
On successful completion of this course, you will achieve the BTEC Level 2 Technical Occupational Entry in Leading Community Activity.
How do I join the course ?
Please complete an application form and return to the College – either online, by post or in person at one of our campuses. You will need to register for and attend a sports trial with your chosen specialist sports academy (trials and academies are detailed on our Sports webpages).
Will I need an interview ?
Yes, you will need to meet with a member of staff for an interview and complete an initial assessment.
