If you are over 16 years old and interested in sports coaching and sports development, the BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Sports Coaching might be the perfect fit for you. This course will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to progress to the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development qualification or pursue a career in the sports and recreation industries.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
To enrol in this course, you are required to have 4 GCSEs at grades 4-9, preferably including English, Maths, and P.E. Applicants with a BTEC Level 2 Award in Sport need a Distinction grade, while those with a BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Sport need a Merit grade. You must have an interest in and choose one of the following academies on your application: Athletics, Basketball, Football, Tennis, Boxing, Flag Football, or Women’s Rugby. While it is ideal to have previous experience playing competitive sports, it is not necessary to secure a place on the course.
What will I study ?
You will study a wide range of sport-related subjects, including Careers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry, Health, Wellbeing and Sport, and Developing Coaching Skills. You will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience as part of the curriculum. Additionally, as part of your full-time study program, you will have the chance to join one of our academies, participate in training and matches, and earn extra coaching qualifications. You can choose from the following academies: Athletics, Basketball, Football, Tennis, Boxing, Flag Football, Women’s Rugby, and male Volleyball.
How will I be assessed ?
Assessments will take place throughout the course including practical assessments; written assignments; presentations and workbooks.
What qualifications could I achieve ?
On successful completion of this course, you will achieve the BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Sport Coaching.
How do I join the course ?
Please complete an application form and return to the College – either online, by post or in person at one of our campuses. You will need to register for and attend a sports trial with your chosen specialist sports academy (trials and academies are detailed on our Sports webpages).
Will I need an interview ?
Yes, you will need to meet with a member of staff for an interview and complete an initial assessment.
