What qualifications or experience do I need?
You will require a Merit in BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science (60 credits), and a standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grades 9-5 including science, additional science, mathematics and English language, as well as a reference from your last/current school.
What will I study ?
You will study a wide range of science units based on Biology, Chemistry and Physics, Biological Molecules, Genetic information, variation, and relationships between organisms. These units cover many diverse aspects of scientific investigation, as the purpose of this course is to gain both a theoretical and practical knowledge, skills and experience for this field of study. You will complete: · AAQ BTEC in Applied Science, · AAQ BTEC in Medical Science and · A Level Biology (AQA)
How will I be assessed ?
All units will be assessed and graded, and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded at the end of the programme. For AAQ in BTEC Applied Science and AAQ in Medical Science To achieve a pass grade for the qualification you must complete and achieve a minimum of a pass in all units. Units will be assessed by controlled assessment and External BTEC Pearson Exams For A Level Biology (AQA) During the first year, you will have an initial assessment followed by four progress assessments throughout Year 12. You must pass the assessment at the end of the first year to progress on to the second year. At the end of the second year, you will sit three public examinations. You will also be assessed throughout the year on the practical work you complete to achieve your practical endorsement.
What qualifications could I achieve ?
Equivalent to 3 A levels: Pearson Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification BTEC National in Medical Science (Extended Certificate) – Equivalent to One A level; Pearson Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification BTEC National in Applied Science (Extended Certificate) - Equivalent to One A level; GCE A level Biology.

Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?
Learners are expected to provide their own textbooks. Laboratory coats are provided by the college, however it is good practice to provide your own, particularly if you are planning to progress on to further laboratory sciences.
