What qualifications or experience do I need?
You will require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (formerly A*-C) including English and Maths grades and a Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts; and a reference from your previous school/college. (Over 19s will be considered if qualifications and experience make them suitable, but will have to fund the course themselves or apply for a learner loan.)
What will I study ?
This course at Barnet and Southgate College offers a comprehensive introduction to performance and theatre in the form of practical workshops and skills development. You will regularly have opportunities to work on plays, student devised work or showcases. In addition, you will learn about the production process. You will study 18 units over two years including: Classical and contemporary performance; Dance forms; Principles of acting; Singing; Historical context of performing arts; Voice; Community theatre. During the course you will develop your ability to respond to drama performances to improve your understanding of social and cultural contexts of theatre arts, as well as developing your performing skills.
How will I be assessed ?
Assessment is formative and coursework is assessed throughout the year.
