Early Years Education students celebrate T Level Thursday

T Level Early Years Education students presented their work to guests from Middlesex University and the Barnet Education and Learning Service (BELS) at the Barnet Campus

The event, held in the new training nursery facility in the College's historic Tudor Hall,  High Barnet, marked T Level Thursday, part of National Apprenticeship Week 2024.

Maria Dounetas, Curriculum Manager for T Levels, Felicity Cromwell, Curriculum Manager for Childcare and Education, and Briony Parker, Early Years tutor, explained how the students had progressed  in their first year, and how they had greatly benefited from activities such as meeting early years managers to get vital professional advice.

The students then presented their projects, which all focused on raising awareness of special educational needs in early years activities by celebrating children with specific disabilities or health conditions.

The special guests - Lourdes Kerr from Middlesex University, and Tracy Parrott, Ceri Gillo and Monika Ali Chowdhury from BELS - talked to the students about their projects and then gave each a score. The winner, Keira Harper was then presented with a special prize for her work 'Hot Wheels'.

The guests were extremely impressed by the depth of research undertaken by the students, and raised the possibility of sharing materials with a wider early years audience.

Maria Dounetas, Curriculum Manager for T Levels at Barnet and Southgate College, said:

"It's been a tremendous showcase by the students, and the reaction of our guests shows how impressed they are by the quality of the early years T Level work at Barnet and Southgate College.

Feedback from outside agencies, as well as their industrial placement partners, is always incredibly valuable and we'd like to thank all guests for coming along today."

The Apprenticeships Team at Barnet and Southgate College has celebrated National Apprenticeship Week (#NAW2024) by sharing case studies, holding advice and guidance sessions for employers and apprentices in local jobcentres, and with an employer-focused webinar by Employer Engagement Broker Shaun Murphy.
