Level 1 Bricklaying and Level 2 Construction students assisted in the building of the Canada Villa Youth and Community Centre in Mill Hill.
During March, Volunteer It Yourself (VIY), a Social Enterprise equipping young people with the necessary skills required to gain on-the-job experience with qualified tradespeople, contacted Barnet and Southgate College with an amazing opportunity for our students to hone and improve their skills as well as aid and support the local community.
Several students from bricklaying and construction volunteered to take part in the placement, and were given the opportunity to take part in a carpentry project at the Youth and Community Centre.
Site manager Alan Dalton supported and mentored the learners, training them with the necessary skills needed to build their confidence and improve their industry experience.
Barnet and Southgate industrial placement department is very proud that our learners did a fabulous job and the VIY Team were very pleased with the end results for the wider community.
This successful venture has resulted in VIY looking to work with the College for future projects with our construction students.
