Barnet and Southgate College launch the first Juventus football academy in the UK

The football and education academy at the Colindale Campus aims to use sport to create life-changing opportunities for young people

The Academy, which begins operations in September 2024, will offer student athletes aged 16 to 18 the opportunity to combine education with life skills and intensive training in football with full-time professional coaches.

Based at the Colindale Campus of Barnet and Southgate College in north west London, the Academy will provide students with pathways into employment, further education and even the potential opportunity to play football in Italy.

This unique programme is designed for ambitious 16 to 18 year old boys, and will provide the opportunity to gain a sports qualification at Barnet and Southgate College whilst training ‘as a professional footballer would’.

Students at the Juventus Academy will experience top-tier training sessions led by UEFA qualified coaches, preparing them for intense weekly fixtures in one of the most competitive leagues outside of ‘signed’ academy football.

Recruitment for the first group of students will take place over the coming months and details can be found at www.juventus.com/en/academy

Neil Coker, CEO of Barnet and Southgate College, said: “We are proud and excited to be the first UK college to offer this unique programme in partnership with Juventus. It joins a number of other sporting academies offered by the college, highlighting our breadth of experience in delivering these dual programmes.

“The Juventus Academy gives aspiring young football players the chance to develop their skills and knowledge of the game, whilst also achieving a full-time education. Those aged between 16 and 18 years old are eligible to trial with an aim to enrol on a sports course. It really is a fantastic opportunity for young people to be able to take a step towards achieving their sporting dreams."

Lorenzo Dolcetti, former professional footballer, and Technical Director at Juventus Academy London said “Having played professionally, I understand the importance of combining top-tier football training with academic excellence to nurture well-rounded athletes.”

Mirko Morena, Head Coach at Juventus Academy said “We have been blown away by the facilities and courses offered at Barnet and Southgate College. Combined with the Juventus Academy Education Programme, students have an unparalleled opportunity to develop both on and off the field."

Luisa Raimondo, Juventus Academy Director said “We are excited about this stronger partnership between Barnet and Southgate College and Juventus Academy, which will open up significant opportunities for player-students seeking a pathway to professional football whilst pursuing their education”
