The Access to Higher Education Diploma (Nursing) at Barnet and Southgate College is a well-established, national qualification which allows students without traditional Level 3 qualifications to apply and progress to university.
Our highly successful one year Access to Higher Education Nursing course is ideal for applicants wishing to study a degree course in nursing, midwifery, or other health-related professions. In addition to the entry requirements, all successful candidates should demonstrate an enthusiasm and passion for nursing and associated health and social care sectors.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
We welcome applicants who are 19 years old or over and have a grade C (4/5) or above at GCSE or Functional Skills Level 2 in English & maths. Evidence of paid or voluntary employment within the health and social care sector in an area that you wish to pursue as a career is beneficial and will support your application
What will I study ?
This course has an intensive study programme, you must be completely committed to hard work and you will be required to maintain 100% attendance. You are expected to self-study for a minimum of 10 extra
How will I be assessed ?
A number of methods will be used to assess your knowledge and understanding. In order to achieve the full qualification the learner will be assessed using one or a combination of the following: Essays, classwork and projects. Learners will need to gain 60 credits (45 credits graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction, and 15 ungraded credits) in order to complete the course and achieve the full qualification.

How do I join the course ?
Please complete an application form and return to the College - either online, by post or in person at the one of our campuses.
Please include evidence of your Level 2 English qualification.
Will I need an interview ?
You will be contacted by a member of the admissions team for a chat. All learners must demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills at Level 2. You will be required to take an online test when you come into college, and you will be asked to provide evidence of your English and Maths qualification in the form of your certificates or relevant transcripts.
Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?
There will be additional costs for course textbooks and stationery (approximately £50.00).
Further Information
Access programmes are specifically designed to prepare mature students to enter higher education. They will help to develop the skills and knowledge required to successfully complete a degree course or diploma in higher education. Applicants who do not hold a relevant Maths and English qualification, will be offered an alternative programme with Maths and English components. This will offer the opportunity to progress to Access to Higher Education Nursing the following academic year.
STUDENT FINANCE ENGLAND WILL 'WRITE OFF' ANY ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN BALANCES YOU OWE FOR AN ACCESS TO HE COURSE ONCE YOU COMPLETE A HIGHER EDUCATION COURSE. THIS MEANS YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REPAY IT.
