Governor
I have had 40 years’ service in Education and related sectors including Children’s Social Care and believe I can continue to add value and contribute to improvement. I think my experience is a strong match to this governance role at the College. As well as having strategic leadership for the development of governance in a local authority, I have also previously been a local authority governor. I am very committed to the ‘critical friend’ function and understand the parameters of governance which allows leaders to lead and governors to govern. I am fully aware of the need to act corporately as a governing body once decisions have been made. In my last post I worked closely with this sector. I strongly believe that young people and adults should have as many routes into high quality education, employment and training as possible. I am aware also that leaders face many challenges to deliver this within significant budget constraints. Beyond specific interests in access to education, student/adult voice and wider strategic planning for delivery, I think my breadth of experience means that I have a ‘utility ‘role, focusing on areas identified by the Board and leaders at the College. My previous roles had an implicit responsibility to delivery on equalities and diversity. I chaired both the Equalities Group and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Board. I have a very strong commitment to a values-based approach to strategic planning; balanced with realism and good humour. I have an enhanced DBS.
