This course is for young people aged 16 – 19 (or to 25 with an EHCP). It is ideal for learners who need to retake their maths and English GCSEs and who want to be able to progress onto a Level 2 BTEC Extended Certificated in Applied Science Course the following year.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
You will be expected to have a grade 2/3 in English and maths & Science or demonstrate, through assessment, a standard of literacy and numeracy suitable for a GCSE qualification.
What will I study ?
GCSE Maths, GCSE English, Functional Skills Maths and English, and a BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Vocational studies - made up of 4 Core units to help develop organisational and study skills and 6 sector units which will include 3 Science Units, Hospitality, Land-Based Studies. In addition, you will have a weekly tutorial with your own personal tutor and a work experience placement.
How will I be assessed ?
You will complete assessments throughout the year and complete end of year exams.
What qualifications could I achieve ?
GCSE Maths; GCSE English; Functional Skills English and Maths BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Vocational studies (Pass/Merit or Distinction grades).

Will I need an interview ?
Yes - but it is more of a discussion than an interview. We want to open the doors that are closed to you right now and an important part of this is seeing you in person and discussing how we can help. You will also sit an English and Maths assessment to help us establish your level if you do not already have a GCSE Grade 3. Please bring any exam, qualification certificates, and support documents to the interview.
Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?
You only need to provide basic equipment such as pens, paper, folders, calculators etc. Lab coat for science practical sessions.
