Move Up (Southgate Campus)

This one-year course at Barnet and Southgate College is for young people aged 16–18 or up to 25 with an EHCP. We have smaller groups with extra support and staff who will provide guidance and specialised teaching. This is perfect if you need to spend some more time working on maths, English, project work, problem solving and communication. You might have an EHCP or know that you prefer smaller classes with more support. This is an ideal course to get used to the college environment. You will be able to spend lunch and break times independently. There will be opportunities to take part in a range of different types of exercise and fitness activities and consider their own health needs and will learn about factors that affect health. Within the Move Up Course you will build communication skills and confidence. There is a full set of qualifications to take you forward. You will have a positive attitude towards learning and be able to take part in pair and small group work.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
There are no formal entry requirements. At interview we will see that you can communicate effectively and are able to take part in class work.
What will I study ?
You will study for an Entry 3 Certificate in Vocational Studies. The BTEC Certificate will include units about health, careers, planning and fitness. In this qualification evidence is compiled to show understanding of the key topics. English Functional Skills will develop students’ ability to write efficiently, read texts and communicate verbally in groups. Maths functional skills will develop students’ ability to work with money, shapes, charts, time and measurements. Students will undertake study skills and tutorials, personal and social development and work experience. A range of enrichment activities are available within the College for students to participate in. You will study and complete work in classrooms and online on different learning platforms. In addition, you will be expected to do at least 3 hours of independent study every week.
How will I be assessed ?
You will be assessed through a vocational portfolio and Functional Skills exams for maths, English and ICT.
What qualifications could I achieve ?
An Entry 3 BTEC Certificate in Vocational studies Functional Skills in maths and English (Entry 2 to Level 1)
How do I join the course ?
Please apply online (via the orange button) and the College will contact you shortly. After you apply, you will be invited to interview where you can meet the teaching team. Please bring anyone such as family members or carers to help. If you like the course and you meet the entry requirements you will be enrolled, given a student ID and join the course for induction at the beginning of term. You will be invited to interview where you can meet the teaching team and we can discuss what you want to do. Please bring anyone such as family members or carers to help. Please bring any qualification certificates and support documents such as EHCP to the interview. There will be a short assessment of maths and English to check you are applying for the right course.
