This course at Barnet and Southgate College provides students with the opportunity to continue to improve their communication skills and language skills and gain a qualification in childcare. This vocational course has been developed to provide learners with an introduction to the skills, knowledge and understanding required to prepare for work in childcare or to progress to further study.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
To qualify for this course, students need to be eligible to study ESOL; have an ESOL Entry 2 Certificate (or equivalent level) and be interested in Interest in caring for children.
What will I study ?
Students will study ESOL (English for Students of Other Languages), childcare, functional skills maths and functional skills ICT.
How will I be assessed ?
There will be continuous assessment in the classroom.
What qualifications could I achieve ?
On successful completion of this course, students will achieve - ESOL Entry 3 Certificate in Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing;
Functional Skills maths;
Functional Skills ICT;
and a Level 1 Award in Caring for Children.

Will I need an interview ?
Yes, you will need to meet with a member of staff for an interview and an initial assessment. You will need to demonstrate an interest in childcare; as we are looking for enthusiastic, motivated people who are able to fully commit to this course for the whole year
