This qualification is for 16–19-year-old learners who would like to work or progress into the construction industry within the electrical installation specialism. It also provides UCAS points if a learner decides to go on to study Higher Education after the course leading to further opportunities in the construction sector.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
A minimum of four GCSEs at grade 4 or above. This must include at least one science subject and English AND Maths at grade 5 or above.
What will I study ?
Year 1 - Core Content – This is a breadth of knowledge and skills related to Building Services Engineering (BSE). This is the foundation on which the specialist knowledge is built in the second year. Year 2 – Specialist content - Electrotechnical engineering (This is the knowledge and skills you need to enter the sector (threshold competence). NOTE: to become a qualified electrician you need further experience and certification whilst on the job. 315 hours of industry placement will take place across the 2 years of study.
How will I be assessed ?
Assessments will be by external examination, employer set projects and practical assessments.

How do I join the course ?

Will I need an interview ?
You will need to successfully complete an interview with electrical installation teaching staff. This will test a student’s suitability in terms of understanding the sector and the expectations of the qualification.
Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?
You will be expected to provide your own personal protective equipment and regulations books. More information will be provided during the interview.
