This diploma at Barnet and Southgate College is the industry’s most recognised route for qualification as an electrician and you can work in the domestic, commercial or industrial sectors.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
Students progressing from Level 1 Electrical Installation are required to have successfully completed Level 1 Electrical Installation Certificate and hold GCSE English and maths at grade 4+. Functional skills English and Maths at level 2 can be used as an alternative if GCSEs are not held. Students entering directly from school or those without the level 1 certificate in electrical installation are required to have at least 4 GCSEs, 2 of which need to be in English and Maths all should be at least grade 4. Applying students without the required GCSEs may be considered for the Level 1 Electrical installation course.
What will I study ?
For this Level 2 Diploma you will learn about Health and Safety and industry practices, electrical science, electrical installation and electrical technology.
How will I be assessed ?
Your work will be assessed by a combination of City & Guilds knowledge exams and assessments of your practical work by a qualified assessor. You will be given help to prepare for all assessments and tests. The qualification also involves Employer involvement as part of the course.
What qualifications could I achieve ?
Successful completion of the course will lead to an award of Level 2 Certificate (City & Guilds 8202-20). From here you can choose to proceed to the Diploma Level 3 or look for an Apprenticeship.

You must provide and wear approved safety footwear, and have a copy of the course book and a scientific calculator. Students who are accepted onto one of Electrical courses at Level 2 must purchase the following mandatory book(s) within the first week of joining their course: IET On-Site Guide - updated to BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 (Brown Cover)
