Tugba Karaarslan, Level 3 Student

“My name is Tugba and I am studying on the Level 3 BTEC Childcare, cache level 3 early years educator course at Barnet and Southgate College. I’m 19 years old and now in my third year based at the College’s Wood Street Campus.

"I love coming into College, it’s a great Campus, but we also spend a lot of time working. I spend two days a week, which works out to be 350 hours work experience, in a nursery in Edmonton. It’s great as I am putting what I am learning in class into practice there, and I’m working with the babies at the nursery which is great and I enjoy it.

"My course at College covers early years teaching, which is from the ages of 0 to 7 years. The tutors are great and lessons are very interactive, they organise group work and I like the way that we are assessed at College, it’s not all exams. It’s such a change from school after being in a class of 30 people it’s much smaller at College and there’s more 1-2-1 support here and you do get the help when you want and I get more if I sometimes need it. After studying here I’d like to go into higher education, to university to study and learn about teaching older children, but eventually I’d like to be a teacher in a primary school.”
