Students interested in pursuing a career in Art, Design or Craft at Barnet and Southgate College. The course was designed to cultivate your interest in Art and Design, enabling you to develop your creativity. It will support your transition from further to higher education and employment.

What qualifications or experience do I need?
You will need 5 GCSEs grade 8/9 - 4/5 (A*-C), preferably including English; a Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and/or English; or a Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design (Distinction or Merit) or a Level 2 Diploma in another relevant subject area (Distinction or Merit); and a reference from your previous school/college.
What will I study ?
Year 1 is the exploratory stage, you will take part in a variety of 2D and 3D workshop activities to explore and develop your knowledge and understanding of materials, techniques and processes. In year 2 students choose a specialist subject area and further develop and build upon skills learnt. These include: Graphics, Multimedia, Photography, Fashion and Textiles, Fine Art, plus other specialist options. Students complete a Final Major assignment, where you write and direct your own project. At the end of the year, students showcase their portfolio of artwork at the college and of year exhibition, and frequently display their work in shows at other commercial locations.
How will I be assessed ?
Coursework is assessed throughout the year.

Year 1 - UAL: Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design, Year 2 - UAL: Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design (Progression onto Year 2 is subject to successful completion of the diploma, attendance and punctuality)

Will I need an interview ?
Yes - you will need to meet a member of staff for an interview; to which you should bring a portfolio of your artwork, and a written piece (approximately 300 words – one side of A4) on why you are applying for a creative course and what your future plans are.
Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?
Most materials will be provided, but it is advisable to invest in a range of art and design related equipment and materials, so you can continue your work outside of the studios.
Further Information
Students may be required to study Functional Skills or GCSE English and/or Maths as part of their programme.
