APPLICATION PROCESS

Please note that in terms of the enrolment process, apprenticeships differ from other college courses. Applicants cannot enrol as apprentices until they have secured employment. 

1. Apply

To apply for an apprenticeship please email your CV to apprentice@barnetsouthgate.ac.uk stating what apprenticeship you wish to apply for. If you require ALS (Additional Learning Support), please ensure that you inform a member of staff.  

2. Attend Assessment

You will be required to attend an assessment session at either our Wood Street or Colindale campus. These sessions last for approximately 3 hours and are held every on Tuesday and Friday mornings.

The session consists of: 
•    A presentation on our how apprenticeships work and how we support you. 
•    An applicant’s eligibility is confirmed through ID and qualification check 
•    Applicants are then required to complete online English and Maths assessment to determine your suitability for your chosen apprenticeship.  

3. Selecting the right apprenticeship and vacancy

A member of the team will have a one-to-one discussion with you regarding your assessment results, and the most suitable apprenticeship and vacancies for you.

If you are not currently working at the level required there are a number of different courses that can support you to upskill to the level required to apply for an apprenticeship.  
 
Courses you may be referred for: 
Functional Skills or GSCE English & Maths 
ESOL 
Full Time Study programme

4. The Selection Process

Your CV will be then be emailed to employers. It may take some time until you are contacted for an interview. The decision whether or not the employer interviews a candidate, is theirs. This is why it is essential to ensure your CV is detailed, up-to-date and follows a professional format. 
 
The interview process varies from employer to employer. Employers may conduct one-to-one informal interviews, more formal panel interviews or trial candidates before they commit to employing them as an apprentices. 
 
Finding own employment:
You also have the option of seeking employment yourself. If you are successful in your search, please inform a member of the team who will contact the employer to discuss the apprenticeship requirements with you.  

5. Enrol as an apprenticeship – start the job and the training

Once you have received an offer of employment, a member of the Apprenticeship Team will contact the employer to complete the sign-up process. Once this has been done, you will be contacted with details of your formal start date.
